Hailing from the streets of Chicago is the Stateside Bad Boy of Underground Garage and Grime. Since Underground Garage has moved on from it’s "15 minutes of fame" in the US in the late 90’s/early 00’s, Sushi has worked his way to becoming one of the most renowned Underground Garage DJ’s in the US.
Since 1996, Sushi has played numerous genres of electronic dance and urban music, including but not limited to hip-hop, drum & bass, and house. His roots in rave and hip-hop culture are the main influences on his unique mixing style, which incorporates the cutting and scratching of hip-hop DJ’s and the mixing and blending of dance music DJ’s.
Sushi has had great success as a rave promoter from the late 90’s through the early 00’s, bringing in crowds with up to the thousands in attendance, but began devoting more and more of his time to DJing around the time of the new millenium. During this time, Sushi completed two studio mix albums, "Step In2 My Mind" and "Enjoy Tha Ride". "Enjoy Tha Ride" was widely spread in the EDM underground across the United States eventually landing a review in the June 2003 issue of URB Magazine, which led to an impressive follow up studio mix, "Hotsteppa". But this was all just the beginning of Sushi’s growing success.
Since 2002, Sushi’s dedication to Underground Garage music has gotten him booked across the United States at numerous rave and club events including Stellar Spark 2 in Milwaukee (New Year’s Eve, 2003), the Garage Conference in Dallas (September 2004), Sonar in Baltimore (May 2005), and many more, while his skill, versatility, and creativity has put him in top ranking spots in DJ competitions such as the Midwest DJ Summit 3.0 (1st place; sponsored by Sam Ash), the Chicago Northside vs. Southside DJ Competition (1st place; presented by Underground Semetry), and Take the Decks (2nd place; sponsored by Sam Ash). Sushi has played alongside artists such as Freaky Flow & MC Flipside, Skylab 2000, DJ Funk, DJ DB, Reid Speed, Paul Johnson, Danny The Wildchild, and others.
Whether it be pounding out the new sound of UK grime (sometimes mixing it with a touch of hip-hop) or rinsin’ the sexy beats of "oldskool" and Newskool 2-Step and 4x4 garage, Sushi has done it, is doin’ it, and will be doin’ it for years to come.
